Well…this started out as an epic fail…but it ended as a yummy treat – and the kids LOVED making it! My PLAN was to make rice krispy treat eggs, with “surprises” in the middle – M&M’s!! I followed the directions and it was a complete MESS. The treats were just TOO sticky to do anything with. They stuck to the plastic eggs, our fingers, the m&m’s, spoons, basically everything. There was no way to make a nice egg shape.
So-we poured the mixture into a pan and the kids had a blast “hiding” and “poking in” the M&Ms. We used peanut butter M&M’s as well. It’s not really a super “secret” recipe. But I thought I’d share because if your kids like to be in the kitchen and “help” – this is a fun one!!!
3 Tablespoons Butter
6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
1 Package Regular Marshmallows (10 oz)
1 bag peanut butter M&M’s (or any M&M’s you prefer!!)
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.
4. Press M&M’s into mixture. The kids had a blast doing this!!!
In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2, 3, and 4 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.
