Last month I took a trip to Aldi Headquarters in Chicago, IL to learn more about the store that I already LOVE to pieces. I knew that I loved their prices and their food, but that is about all that I knew about Aldi. I headed to Chicago with a list of questions from readers and a few that I had been curious about as well. Check out the Q&A Below along with pictures from my trip and a few facts I learned while attending this event.
WHY Do we have to pay for carts at Aldi? I knew part of this answer – if we take care of returning our own carts, Aldi does not have to pay for extra employees to go clean up the parking lot every hour and collect our carts. Shoppers pay a quarter to use the cart, and get their money back when they return the cart. BRILLIANT in my book. Another reason (I NEVER thought of this!) is that there is less damage to our cars by carts rolling around in the parking lot. LOVE that! *This is one of the many reasons their prices are so low*
HOW do the cashiers move so darn fast at Aldi?? Next time you shop at Aldi, or if you have any Aldi food in your home now, take a peek at the package. The packaging contains a minimum of 4-5 bar codes on each item! No need to twist and turn the packages searching for bar codes. This keeps the lines moving quickly and again saving them AND US money by not having a large amount of employees. *This is one of the many reasons their prices are so low*
WHY do we have to buy bags? Well, every store has to pay for bags…then they just tack that price into the products we buy. So, when we bring our bags, we all save. And heck, let’s save the environment while we’re at it! *This is one of the many reasons their prices are so low*
I’m happy to report that Aldi is currently expanding their Organic Product Lines! Be on the lookout for more organic products. And many more fresh organic fruits & veggies!
Aldi carries bottles of award winning wines – all $6.99 OR LESS!
Most stores have just 6 aisles!! Much easier to shop than huge competitor stores. Everything is stocked efficiently.
