Disclaimer: I was provided with a trip to view the Cars 3 movie to help facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.
Cars 3 will be racing to theaters this Friday, June 16th. Take your whole family to see this one. I was able to watch it twice this past weekend and I plan on taking my family this coming weekend.
The gang is back together. In Cars 3, you will see Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sally, and even though Doc is gone, we get glimpses of him from Lightning McQueen’s memories. We also get to meet some new characters that you’re sure to fall in love with.
Even if Jackson Storm is not the most stand-up guy, there is a little something in him that I fell for! It could be that he is voiced by the dreamy Armie Hammer?
Jackson Storm is fast, sleek and ready to race. A frontrunner in the next generation of racers, Storm’s quiet confidence and cocky demeanor are off-putting—but his unmatched speed threatens to redefine the sport. Trained on high-tech simulators that are programmed to perfect technique and maximize velocity, Jackson Storm is literally built to be unbeatable—and he knows it. – source
Cruz Ramirez takes Cars 3 by storm. She begins as a fan of Lightning McQueens and becomes his trainer. I won’t spoil the ending for you! Cruz Ramirez is voiced by Cristela Alonzo.
Miss Fritter may come off harsh at first, but in the end she becomes one of my favorite characters. She is funny and I love funny! She is voiced by Lea DeLaria. See, funny!
Miss Fritter loves the smash-and-crash life of demolition derby. A local legend at the Thunder Hollow Speedway, Fritter’s formidable school-bus-size is intimidating, but it’s her smoke stacks of doom, razor-sharp stop sign and crazy collection of her victims’ license plates that usually steers her opponents in the other direction. Natalie Certain is another new character we meet in Cars 3. She is a mathematician that really knows her stats and numbers. She is voiced by Kerry Washington.
Cars 3 begins with what Lightning does best. Winning races! Out of nowhere, rookie Jackson Storm takes the lead and is not very nice about it. He continually reminds Lightning McQueen of his age and tries to talk him into retirement. But Lightning McQueen is not ready. Then, the unthinkable happens. A HUGE crash.
McQueen has a serious crash. Thankfully, he is ok. But this crash makes him take a hard look at where he is and if he wants to continue racing. Although I did hear gasps around the theater during this crash, I would still take my children to see the movie. The above is about as bad as it gets.
After the crash and some time off for McQueen, he has come to a decision. At that time we meet his new trainer, Cruz Ramirez. Cruz is one tough cookie. She has a great sense of humor and is strong willed. She has a great story to tell about her past and I truly believe that she is going to inspire quite a few young girls after they watch this movie. Cruz Ramirez reminds girls of all ages that they can dream BIG and accomplish those big dreams. I won’t spoil the end.
I can NOT post this review without a shout out to Mater. Mater is a big teddy bear. In every Cars movie he has done everything in his power to protect and support his self proclaimed best friend McQueen. And Cars 3 is no different. We get to see him rally behind McQueen once again. And with new and even funnier jokes than previous movies. Mater is someone that I’d love to have as my best friend. Uplifting and supportive.
