Your super smart kiddo has been accepted to college. 18+ years of hard work has paid off. Good job mom, dad, and kiddo! Now it’s time to send them out on their own.
We are at that point in life right now. Our oldest is heading off in just one week. The university is local (40min away), but the internship he accepted on campus requires him to live on campus due to the 6am start time. Yikes. After pouring lots of money into his senior year for parking passes, prom, SAT testing, graduation costs, and more, the sticker shock for college tuition was next. Wow. Thankfully he was a super awesome student and earned a scholarship. Tuition and housing covered. We “only” had to pay for books and food. $650 later (wow books are expensive!!), I am hoping he puts those books to good use.
It’s now time to pack for his dorm. After that $650 book payment, I knew I had to find some great deals. Below is a list of the things we bought over the last week at a great price!
DOLLAR TREE FINDS
Pencil cup for desk $1 (these were $3+ at Target!)
Paper Clips & Post it Notes
Frames – many sizes
Small Containers (decorated)
Small Block Quotes
Over the door hooks for towels
Toilet paper 4pk $1

Hand Towels $1 each
Desk Lamp $5.99
3 Drawer Plastic Storage Bin on wheels $9
Arm Pillows $12-$15 (Wait for a sale)
Tumblers, Bowls, Plates 79 cents each
I’m not a fan of buying hygiene products at the Dollar Tree, but I added it to the list above in case anyone is looking for the best deal. Razors, for example, I won’t buy at The Dollar Tree as my son has sensitive skin. Instead, I used Amazon’s subscribe and save. I subscribed a year ago, for $4 a pack. I now have 12 packs to send to school with him. Keep an eye out for those amazing Amazon Subscribe & Save Deals. You can even have them shipped directly to your child’s dorm.
When it comes to food, we are lucky to have him so close by. He will come home on the weekends to do laundry and pick up food from my weekly shopping trip to bring back to school for the week. This was a better option price-wise than the room & board plan at the school or eating out or on campus. I’ll be sure to share deals through the year on college dorm friendly foods. He has a fridge and microwave. And a VERY small freezer area on his fridge. This will be interesting.
