Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom Movie Review + Don’t miss the awesome giveaway at the bottom.
Do you love monkeys? If you don’t, I promise that you will after watching Monkey Kingdom. It’s filled with monkey cuteness, funny monkey antics, and many interesting facts about Macaque monkeys in Sri Lanka.
In this heartwarming Disneynature film, we learn about Maya and her struggle being at the bottom of the totem pole. She is considered a “lower class” in the monkey kingdom. What does this mean? Her meals consist of whatever is left over after the upper class monkeys have finished their meals. She is somewhat of a loner, left to fend for herself. She is looked down upon, even ignored at times. Immediately after meeting Maya, you will develop a love for her and a need to protect her.
So, wait…where does the heartwarming part of the story come in to play? Maya finds a mate, in a most unexpected way, and has a beautiful baby boy. Once she has this bundle of joy, she does what all mothers do. She falls completely in love with her new son and fights for her boy’s safety and for his future. Does she win this fight? Does her boy survive? Does he thrive? You will have to watch the movie to find out how this story ends.
Throughout the movie, we are entertained with hilarious monkey antics. Behaviors that will make the young and old giggle and laugh out loud! Keep an eye on “grandpa”. He is my favorite character, and I bet he will be one of yours as well. Who says the older generation can’t have fun? Not grandpa!
During the movie, we get a glimpse at how monkeys have to fight to keep their status and their homes. We find out what happens when monkeys wander into human villages and towns. You won’t want to miss this part.
I will be taking all 4 of my kids to see Monkey Kingdom. They will enjoy the film, laugh, and learn quite a bit about these amazing creatures.
