Donate Your Stockpile
If you’ve been around awhile and have read and seen readers (and my own) shopping trips, you may have wondered WHY someone may need 10 jars of peanut butter or 8 boxes of spaghetti or 10 bottles of shampoo, etc etc. Many couponers, like myself, don’t buy things just to stock our shelves and stare at them until they expire. We donate to local pantries, women’s shelters, schools, and even walk downtown to distribute things by hand! I teach many classes each month, and I focus on how easy it is to help out our community through couponing. Yes, couponing will save your family money. But it will also leave you with so many extra items that can be donated.
This is one of the reasons why I tend to delete nasty comments like “that has so much sugar” or “those taste gross” etc. Because many many pictures I share go straight to those who can not afford to put food on their table at all. And yes some of the food is processed, but I hope we would rather people eat something than starve, no? And don’t forget the toiletries!! When you start couponing, you will notice that things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, body wash, floss, etc are almost always free somewhere. These items are much appreciated by the homeless as well. If they can’t afford food, I’m sure that toothpaste and body wash are not affordable for them either.
If you happen to live locally (Central Florida) , the Lake Mary YMCA is currently collecting donations for homeless families in the area. This is just ONE example of how our stockpile can help others. Below is a list of items in need. But I’m sure they would accept items not on the list too!
Thanks to reader Crystal for sharing this information with me!!
