Today the kids asked if we could have fondue. We don’t have a fondue set….and I knew the pre-packaged fondue cheese at Publix was $11.99 – yikes. So I thought I would create my own fondue. It was a huge success:
First- I decided to use our crock pot to keep the cheese warm – no need to go out and buy a whole fondue set. I also grabbed our s’mores sticks that we got a few years ago in the $1 spot at Target to use as our fondue dipping sticks.
This was SO easy. I added 8oz bag of shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 pound Swiss Cheese (shredded) into a microwave safe bowl. I added about 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup of vegetable broth. Stir and heat in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir. Keep adding milk/broth as needed until your desired consistency. And continue to heat in 1 minute intervals until completely melted. Transfer to a crock pot and keep on warm or low while you enjoy your fondue. No need to purchase an expensive fondue set if you’re not a hard-core fondue maker 🙂
The kids had a BLAST with this. I know many people prefer to put beer or wine in their cheese fondue. We do not. When we go out, we have them replace the wine or beer with broth and milk and it’s WONDERFUL!
