How To Make Hand soap From Bar Soap

Here is a great way to save money on hand soap.  As couponers, we tend to come across MANY deals making bars of soap FREE after coupons.  However, it’s a little more difficult to find free handsoap.  Here is a great way to save some money and make your own handsoap!  From all of the previous comments I have received-it seems IVORY soap works the VERY best!!

Supplies needed: 1 bar of Ivory soap, pan, grater, 2 cups of water

Grate the bar of soap into pan

Add 2 cups of water and melt over medium heat

Allow to cool..you can fill two to three handsoap dispensers

See how EASY that is!! Leave a comment if you try it and let us know how yours turned out!

I absolutely loved this idea, and tried it immediately when I found it! I just wanted to comment that I found the concentration with 2 cups of water to be much to thick, I tried it a few more times, and got all the way up to 10 cups of water before I was happy with the consistency. Store the extra in a milk jug (or whatever), and it’s even more frugal this way : )

Wonder if you could use those last bits of bar soap so there would be no waste?

You can actually use up to a gallon of distilled water with an 8oz bar of soap! I also add a tablespoon of liquid glycerin to mine!

also do you ever have to shake it up or stir it again because the consistancy changes

I hate grating hard soap stuff ( i did it to make laundry soap)
So because its Ivory Soap and if you put a bar in the microwave it makes “snow” I’m thinking… instead of grating it, just making ivory soap “snow” and then adding that to water to melt it down.
I will try it, and come back and tell you if it’s a big fail or the perfect plan!
