It’s finally here!! Monsters University was released in theaters nationwide TODAY!! I have been so excited to talk about the film since watching the first half a few months ago and then finally watching Monsters University in it’s entirety with my son last week. And now I finally can!!
Monsters University is a sequel to the 2001 movie Monsters, Inc. The movie revolves around Mike & Sulley attending “Scare School” at Monsters University to become “scarers”. The movie takes us back to their younger years when Mike & Sulley became friends. They actually do not start off as friends, but after a turn of events they not only become friends, but “best friends!”
Brendan, my almost 7 year old, was so excited to see this movie. We have been watching trailers, putting up posters, and patiently waiting. We arrived at the movie early with our popcorn and grabbed a seat smack dab in the middle of the theater. He loved the young version of Mike. The movie begins with Mike in Elementary School, where he is mesmerized by “scarers” and decides that some day he will become a “scarer” himself. Mike is not the most popular kid in school, so I believe that makes the audience fall in love with him because he is very easy to relate to!
As Mike enters college, he is still outed by those around him and kind of the “odd one out”. However, he is determined to become a scarer no matter what obstacles he has to overcome. This is a HUGE PLUS in my book. I think kids and adults alike can relate to Mike and gives kids hope that they too can succeed and become whatever they want to in life.
I won’t give away the entire movie. I will say – prepare to laugh. I know a movie is funny when I hear belly laughs from my kids. And that is exactly what I heard from my son, belly laughs.
Check out the trailer below, then head out to the theater to check out the movie!!
Disclosure: I received a sneak peek to Monsters University, and all travel, from Disney to help assist in my review. All opinions are mine!
