I must say I
have been completely confused with all of the health care changes that are happening and are going to happen soon. And after reading the Aflac Open Enrollment fact sheet, I can see that I am not alone. I’m relieved that I’m not the only one baffled….
There was a time when I worked at a very large company and I missed the open enrollment period. I was out for a week sick, and apparently they had a few meetings about the open enrollment…and I missed them. Instead of updating me upon my return, I missed out. I sure wish I had more information prior to the enrollment period closing. How did this affect us? I missed out on changing my benefits! I had to wait a LONG time for the NEXT open enrollment period to change my benefits. This can seriously affect your family. PLEASE STAY INFORMED!
I highly suggest reading this Aflac Open Enrollment Fact sheet that is full of information on open enrollment and more. The survey found that most employees (69 percent) were still very confused, unaware and unprepared for the changes that were to come with their health care coverage. Did you know that employers had until October 1st to let employees know of new & upcoming changes, however employees still seem very confused and unaware of the changes. My thought on this is that employers are confused too! 🙁 Did you know that only 9% of companies state that they are prepared to implement required changes to their business based on the health care reform law. As many as 41 percent believe we will see more gaps in coverage in the future and an astonishing 69% believe that costs to employees will increase as a result of health care reform.
So, how can we stay informed? ASK QUESTIONS. Visit or call your HR department. Get answers and stay informed. Suggest to your employer that a professional (like an insurance agent) come and talk to employees to answer questions and explain more clearly exactly what will be changing.
