As you all know, MomTrends offered me the chance to work with Glidden Paint who has partnered with Disney Paint and Walmart to get the boys’ room turned into a magical Disney Cars room. My task was to paint one wall in their room in the Cars theme! I decided to go with a race track.
Now, I will tell you right away, that I am not the craftiest or most creative person by any means. The best feeling was when my younger son would walk in & tell me “Mommy, that looks awesome!”, especially when I wasn’t too sure about it. But when it’s all said & done, as long as the boys are happy with it, then I’m happy!
The room started out with a pretty large area that was bare on the wall. That’s where I decided to paint. Walmart also carries the wall stickers in most of the Disney themes, so that gave me the idea to make a race track.
I decided to free-hand paint the track, I didn’t use painter’s tape because I don’t think it would have helped. Once I outlined the track, I used a small roller to paint the track. I used 2 coats. After I used the Metallic Silver specialty paint to create the track, I then used black paint to outline the track, then yellow paint topped with the Ready Set Glow specialty paint on the track.
I also decided to paint their Armoire black & used the Metallic Silver specialty paint to accent it with, as well as using some of the wall stickers on it.
Finally, I decided to let the boys paint their own pictures to put on the wall. I thought this was a great, inexpensive way to let them help & be creative!
There are so many incredible specialty finishes. All that Glitters (an all over sparkly glitter topcoat), Speck-tacular (an iridescent confetti topcoat), Ready Set Glow (glow in the dark glaze), Great Slate (tintable chalkboard paint) and Magnificent Metallic (24 metallic sheen paints).
One thing that can be helpful is browsing DisneyPaint.com. You can use the virtual room painter to preview paint colors and even watch how to videos.
While you are on DisneyPaint.com I recommend browsing the room ideas. There are several different room layouts per a character that I know can inspire you. They even set you up with a printable paint plan that can include your paint colors, finishes, templates you used, other supplies you’ll need, plus step-by-step instructions on how to use it all!
Thank you for checking out Part II of the boys Disney Cars room makeover with Disney Paint from Walmart! Be on the lookout for my final post within the next few weeks for a FULL room reveal and showing you what a few of their friends think when they come see it for a little “room reveal” party.
