Rides, Food, and Family Fun at the Florida State Fair
Our very first visit to the Florida State Fair was a success! I took my two youngest kids to the Florida State Fair in Tampa this week and we had the best time. We made amazing memories that we will remember for years to come. And I’m pretty sure we will be heading back every year.
**The fair is open through President’s Day**
I was raised in Kissimmee, Florida and always attended our local fair. That was all I knew. When I moved to Orlando, I still headed back to our local fair and rodeo. When I was invited to take the family to the Florida State Fair in Tampa, I was a little hesitant to make the 1.5 hour drive. But I figured it was time for something new.
Our family has been so very busy with all four kids in sports, tax season (hubby is a CPA), and school, it was time for a fun family break. So, off we went! My kids work hard and play even harder!
We had a fun ride over talking about what we were going to eat and ride at the fair. We did a little research prior to heading over and the kids also had a few shows picked out to watch. Once we arrived and parked, I was happy to see a FREE tram service that took us right up to the main gate! This seriously made our day. I wasn’t looking forward to that walk. The tram brought us right to the gate where we could pick up our tickets and a map.
First things first! We went and grabbed our armbands and headed to the midway. First up, the swings.
I could not believe the amount of rides and food stands on the midway. Endless rides! I am not kidding. As I mentioned above, I had attended our local fair since I was 6 years old. It does not compare to the Florida State Fair. I have been missing out for sure! After the swings, we headed down the midway and went on ride after ride. My 10 year old son was tall enough for even the scariest rides! And my 8 year old was tall enough for everything that she wanted to ride. She is not the daredevil like her brother. He was going on rides that made me dizzy just watching:
Special memories were made! I caught these fun pictures of my youngest going on a haunted house ride with her brother. I will keep this photo forever!
When it was time for lunch, we didn’t have to roam far to find delicious fair food. Food was located all over the midway, in the events center, and mixed in near all of the shows/stages.
We ate at the Doughnut Burger! We stepped out of our comfort zone and ordered a donut burger, a mac n cheese burger, and a cheeseburger. My daughter decided she’d keep it simple with her cheeseburger!
Yes, that is a real doughnut. Actually, TWO GLAZED doughnuts with a cheeseburger, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, etc! You’re probably thinking this is a strange combo. It’s actually surprisingly delicious! My son ordered it. He was able to finish about half of the burger/doughnut combo and a few fries. So, you may want to get one meal to share. Don’t forget your funnel cake!
GIRAFFES! Yes, the Florida State Fair had giraffes to pet and feed! This was just one of the animals to see and interact with at the fair. We watched a pig race, pet giraffes, horses, llamas, and more. There was also a dog show and a bear show and a rodeo!!!
Needless to say, there is so much to do at the Florida State Fair with the family. Rides, food, shows, shopping, animals, and so much more. We made countless memories. This is our new go to fair. We will be back year after year. The drive from Orlando to Tampa was well worth it.
