Can you believe that April is already half over? I can’t! Time is flying by this year. We have been super busy since January 1st with tax season (CPA hubby) and getting ready for my oldest to graduate and head off to college. Not to mention all the normal life things. So, this has definitely crept up on me. I did get all of my Easter shopping done today. And I stayed on budget. We are on a very strict budget (did I mention we have a graduate starting college soon? ha!). And we are saving for one of my kids to head off to a baseball tournament in New York this summer. And..to top it all off..our A/C unit died. blah! So, that budget is pretty strict right now for our family. I thought I’d share all the great deals I was able to snag for our four kids.
My first stop was Michael’s. I knew they had Easter Baskets for $1 each. Now I would LOVE to have the super durable baskets with the bells and whistles (solid colors or fabric lined etc), but after many years and many kids I have learned that the basket gets overlooked after the first week. And with older kids there are no egg hunts to worry about. So $1 baskets will do the job….aka hold goodies for a day or two! If you have saved your baskets over the years, you’ll be saving even more. We did that with my first two. Things got chaotic, baskets got lost, or we’d pull them out of the attic and they’d be ruined. So, we get new ones each year.
I also picked up a few items for the baskets at Michael’s. My Michael’s App had a 60% off 1 regular price item coupon (in store only) AND a 40% off 1 regular price item coupon (in-store and online). I utilized both coupons by ordering 1 item online ahead of time (used the 40% off coupon) and used the 60% coupon during my in store shopping trip. Origami paper for my son. Reg price $6.99, got it for $2.80 – score! Glue for my daughter. Reg price $5, got it for $3. Squishees were on sale for $5 so I grabbed one of those and Nerf products were 20% off, so I grabbed a small Nerf gun. Be sure to check the Michaels ad before you go out. Also, if you do want a fancy basket, they are 50% off. Total spent for 4 baskets and 4 good basket stuffers: $18.80
Next stop, Five Below. Have you been? It’s fabulous! It reminds me a little of the Dollar Stores. But more “hip”. Toys, candy, electronics, and seasonal items to name a few. Here is what I was able to grab:
UCF Stuffed Animal – $5
4 boxes of candy $4 (theater size)
3 bags of Big League Chew $3
2 pairs of PJ shorts $8 (2 for $8)
Drawing book $3
iphone charging cord $4
Total $30 + tax
My last stop was Publix. I already had candy that I have grabbed from previous sales/coupons, but I needed Jelly Beans & Easter Grass:
EASTER GRASS IS BOGO TOO!
4 Easter Grass $2.30 & 4 Jelly Bean Bags $5. Total Spent: $7.30
Here are some other candy deals going on NOW at Publix:
total $56.10 for 4 kids including baskets – less than $15 per kid. Stayed under budget!
I hope this gives you a few ideas of where to find some deals. I also suggest hitting up the Dollar Tree.
Here’s a little breakdown per kid to give you an idea. We don’t treat Easter like Christmas. But we do give them something fun and something they need and their favorite candy!
11yr girl: Glue(slime), book, squishee toy, Big League Chew
12yr boy: Nerf gun(small), origami paper(art), Big League Chew
16yr old girl: PJ Shorts, UCF bear, Big League Chew
