Want to experience Florida in a completely natural environment? Then I highly suggest taking a tour of the St. John’s River. St. John’s River Eco Tours will take you on a journey exploring the back waters of the St. Johns River on a 35ft catamaran. I headed out on a 2 hour tour along with my 7 year old son and a few friends to explore what the REAL Florida has to offer. Nothing man-made here. All nature.
The St. Johns River Eco Tour was very relaxing. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Be sure to bring along a camera as you will see birds, fish, alligators, turtles, and maybe even a snake or two. At a nice safe distance of course. While enjoying the beautiful animals and vegetation, your extremely well informed tour guide will fill you in on interesting facts about the river, animals, and so much more. The St. Johns River is only a few minutes from my house, yet I had no idea how much there was to see and learn.
Keep in mind there are a variety of tours to choose from. The 2 hour tour is just one of the many options. They offer photography tours, all day tours, and so much more!
My 7 year old son counted a total of 8 alligators through the trip. That was the first thing he told his dad when we arrived home! He enjoyed learning the names of the different birds native to the area. His favorite part was being the captain for part of the ride.
Insider tips: The boat is nicely shaded, but be sure to apply sunscreen before your tour. Bring along some bottles of water especially in the warmer months and if you’re headed out in the evening, apply bug spray.
From the site: St John’s River Eco Tours operates the most eco-friendly sightseeing boat cruise on the St. John’s River. We operate from the Highbanks Marina & Camp Resort in Debary, Florida. We offer several boat tours daily exploring the river, observing the wild life and experiencing a section of the St. John’s that is little changed from the days when early explorers visited these enchanting waters. Conveniently located approximately 40 minutes from Daytona and Orlando, our boat tours are a refreshing change from the usual tourist paths. So whether you’re a birdwatcher, a fan of alligators or manatees, a nature photographer or are just looking for something a little different, our St. John’s river boat tours maybe just what you are looking for!
