It’s NOVEMBER!! Let’s talk Thanksgiving Turkey prices
This year has seen another annual price jump for this Thanksgiving favorite. Last year, the average price of a frozen whole hen (a female turkey that weighs 8 to 16 pounds) was nearly $1.19 per pound up from about $1.03 in 2013. According to the USDA, the current national average cost of a frozen turkey of similar size is $1.37 per pound.
This year at BJ’s Wholesale Club 9-12 pound frozen Butterball® Whole Turkeys will be for sale at per pound only 89 cents today through November 14 or while supplies last. Butterball Turkeys are all natural, gluten free and raised without hormones on American farms, giving shoppers the highest quality turkey for their Thanksgiving meal. DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that frozen turkeys can be purchased weeks in advance, but needs several days to thaw? A week before the family gathering, take the turkey out of the freezer. Leave the turkey in the packaging and rest it breast side up on a sheet pan. Place the sheet pan in the refrigerator and allow one day of thawing for every four pounds of turkey.
