How do YOU organize your grocery shopping trips and track your grocery spending ? Do you have lists, use excel, or just wing it? Reader Alida posted a screen shot of her spreadsheet that keeps her organized. (above) Now, this could be used just to track your spending afterward, or you could print it out and take it to the store with you. Below is a pic of her shopping trip(s) using the chart above:
Many people use Excel to help them track grocery spending. You just plug in simple math formulas and save the excel sheet to use over and over. Plug in your numbers before or after each trip and you’re done!
I personally print my lists from the website and take it to the store. Then, I hand my receipts (after I’m done with them – gotta get my Ibotta and Endorse refunds first) to my husband who puts totals into our budget tracker. He is an accountant so I don’t have to deal with the tracking myself. Each month we look at how we’re doing with our budget. This includes grocery shopping, entertainment, electric costs, etc and see if we need to adjust anything.
Not only is this a good technique to keep you on track with your spending, but it’s a great way to keep track of the prices of items. You can figure out what the “stock up price” is if you’re tracking each weeks sales/coupons and totals.
