Last month, while attending the Chimpanzee Red Carpet Event, I was able to experience the Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. What an experience it was! I absolutely love animals and close encounters are my favorite. As long as there are no snakes or spiders involved, I’m in!
This 3 hour tour is like no other. It is located inside Animal Kingdom. The entrance is just behind the behind the Dawi Bar. Once we arrived, we geared up for our hike. Our vests had an attached bottle for water, a strong steel clip for some extra – special close encounters, and our own headphones so we could all hear our tour guide. You can also attach your camera to your vest. You will ONLY be able to bring your camera if it is attached.
So, why do you need that camera attached? You will walk across a wobbly bridge- and underneath – CROCS! I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t see your camera again if they got a hold of it!! Here I am on the bridge:
See that black rope behind my head-that’s my safety harness – this trek is VERY safe!!
You will want to be sure to wear closed-toed shoes, wear sunscreen, and drink lots of water on your trek – it is Africa afterall…ok it’s Florida, but it’s still hot & treacherous 🙂
(in the water-I’m not calling myself a hippo lol)
After your trek through the “jungle” and over the animal-filled water, you will board a bus and head out to the “country” portion of the trek. This was my favorite part – I am in love with giraffes! And, on this trek the giraffes get very close. You can reach out and touch them in fact! You will also see elephants, Lions, and so much more.

After your adventure, you will dine on some native foods while watching the wildlife – the scenery is amazing!
Three hours flew by. This was an amazing safari and I highly recommend it if you are planning a trip to Animal Kingdom. I won’t be able to take the whole family – but I think this would be an awesome birthday present for one of the kids with mom or dad. Also, if you book your trek between May 29th and August 25th, you can save $50!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary Wild Trek Tour during a Disney Bloggers Event. However, I was not influenced in anyway. The opinions in the post are 100% mine.
